Western Morning News editor Philip Bowern joins KOR Communications
The award-winning former editor of the south west’s largest regional daily newspaper the Western Morning News has joined KOR Communications to support our work in the land, property and rural affairs sector.
Philip Bowern takes on the role of specialist content writer to shine a light on how Britain’s landowners are addressing the most pressing social and environmental challenges. From promoting land for sustainable development to tackling the impact of climate change, Philip’s work as part of the KOR team will help nurture awareness, understanding and support among communities, stakeholders and decision-makers, often for landscape-scale initiatives.
Prior to editing the Western Morning News, Philip was rural affairs editor. During his distinguished career, he played a major part in championing rural coverage, including establishing the Westcountry Farming magazine.
Through comment pieces, he has become a thought-leader, navigating readers through many changes to the rural landscape; from crises including BSE and Bovine TB, policy and subsidy changes post-Brexit and the balance of managing the land in a productive but sustainable way.
His work has been recognised with awards for rural journalism, including EDF Energy’s Special Reporter of the Year and the British Association for Shooting and Conservation’s Ian Richardson Trophy for services to conservation.
Philip said:
I’m really excited to pursue my rural affairs specialism which I’m deeply passionate about, by continuing to use my journalistic skills in interviewing and writing. I understand the issues faced by those working in the countryside and recognise the importance of promoting that work. I’m also very aware of what can go wrong when there’s a lack of awareness, understanding or support for the management of the countryside.
KOR provides professional communications support and services for clients nationwide, including a number of Britain’s largest landed estates, The Jockey Club, the leading rural insurer NFU Mutual and the Singapore-based Fragrance Group who are developing new hotels across the UK.
Managing Director Annette Richman said:
Philip’s appointment further strengthens the KOR team. His sector knowledge, coupled with his exemplary writing and commentary, is warmly welcomed by our clients. His ability to examine the facts and present them in a compelling way for print and online will certainly help raise further awareness and understanding of our clients’ vital work, particularly as the opportunities for self-published content continue to expand.
