Philip Bowern
Philip’s expertise as a writer and rural affairs commentator is unparalleled, allowing KOR to promote and interpret the work of landed estate and property clients with impact, both in mainstream media and on digital channels.
His thought-leader reports and blogs raise awareness and stimulate discussion among target audience groups, whilst his media releases catch the Editor’s eye.
Having, for many decades, written and edited for a discerning and knowledgeable audience, well-versed in the opportunities and challenges of working in the countryside, Philip fully understands the importance of accuracy and has an ability to deal with complex and sometimes controversial issues for both the specialist and the general reader.
During his distinguished career with the South West’s leading regional daily newspaper, the Western Morning News, where he rose to the role of Editor, Philip played a major part in serving the readership, standing up for farmers and landowners through crises including BSE, Foot and Mouth Disease and Bovine TB. He also helped the rural community celebrate their many successes, leading the newspaper’s Buy Local campaign and establishing the Westcountry Farming magazine as well as overseeing the newspaper’s extensive rural coverage.
Philip has won several awards for rural journalism, including EDF Energy’s special reporter of the year and the British Association for Shooting and Conservation Award’s Ian Richardson Trophy for services to conservation.
